Sharlene’s daughter Kara reached out to me after finding out her mother has breast cancer a mere week and a half prior. It was important to both her and her mother that they have a few really nice photographs of Sharlene before her scheduled surgery this Wednesday (tomorrow). On a whim, we met up on a secluded dirt road in Ann Arbor (thanks to a few facebook friends for the location suggestion) for her session. Meet Sharlene – and send her some warm thoughts and prayers for her surgery tomorrow.

I have always said how important I think boudoir photography is.. not because its sleazy and gets mens attention. NOT even close. Boudoir sessions are such a reward to women. They give them a moment-of-fame experience and a chance to feel beautiful and feminine. Life is hard, and it’s nice to take a break for yourself every once in a while!

Meet Mindy. Her reasoning behind wanting a boudoir session is along those lines, but so much more in depth. Mindy has been fighting Cerebral palsy and RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) since birth. Not only has she been in constant pain, but home bound and an escape is exactly what she needed. She scheduled this session with me months ago, while in the midst of planning her most recent surgery to implant a Spinal Cord Stimulator to help with her RSD. Thankfully, the surgery was a success and has relieved her of some of the pain.

She arrived on Sunday with a big smile and the greatest wardrobe ever. Here are some of my favorites!

When I finished with this session.. I knew it was something big. Something SO big that I have decided to create an entire division of Visual Poetry for. The magic of boudoir photography. My mission for the boudoir division will be to empower women. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful!
