Words can’t even describe how much I love the opportunity to photograph previous brides and grooms and their growing families! Meet Felix – one of easiest babies in history to photograph! He was so content the entire session. I love those cheeks!
My name's Jen and I am the owner and primary photographer with Visual Poetry. Although I work out of Michigan, I am available for travel worldwide! I specialize in Boudoir, Wedding Photography and Lifestyle Portraiture.
This blog is used to keep you updated with my current projects, inspirations, ideas.. and randomness! A little sneak peek behind the curtains. If you like what you see, take a moment and visit my websites at www.jenkniivila.com and www.vpboudoir.com!
Sit down, grab a cup of joe and enjoy! (and come back often). See the world from my point of view...

The Photo Studio Group in Ann Arbor has started a bi-annual fashion show! The first one was in March and the Visual Poetry team was lucky enough to rock their press passes with a few other talented photographers. Next one is happening this fall!
This is Liam – the youngest of three handsome little guys who you’ve most likely seen on the blog many times in the past. Liam was only a few days old for his portraits – isn’t he precious?!
I was beyond excited that Karry and Kermit were all about doing their engagement session outside in the snow! They braved the cold while we walked around their farms in Byron and came up with these beauties. I can’t wait to photograph their June wedding!
You may remember this couple from their Wedding from a few years ago. Tim and Christina are now expecting their first child, a baby boy due in March! I love being able to document such giant milestones in peoples lives! I’m beyond excited to be able to photograph the little bundle when he arrives – so, stay tuned for those images, as well! Here are a few of my favorites from Christina’s maternity session…
At the end of each year I love looking back on everything as much as I love looking forward on what the new year will bring. My motto has been ongoing for each year… live and learn. In both my personal life and business, one thing is evident. Nothing is constant. Every experience is an opportunity to learn. And for that, I am extremely excited for what 2013 will bring!
On Business:
Visual Poetry has kept very busy this entire year! My supposed slow season wasn’t (and ISNT) very slow, after all. And… thats great! You all are keeping me busy doing what I love and I couldn’t be more grateful. I have stepped away from advertising after a few learning ‘opportunities’ and have made the determination that focusing on warm referrals and word-of-mouth inquiries has been the ultimate way in growing my business. That says a lot! It’s SO important to me that my clients leave as friends and not only take away some beautiful imagery, but take away an experience. In a sea of a zillion other photographers… I not only want my images to set me apart. I want ME to be the reason people choose to do business with Visual Poetry over others. We will continue to bring amazing customer service and will enjoy every minute of it! SO.. thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Our hearts. Your business is beyond appreciated. Thank you for allowing us to be there on such important milestones in your families life!
On Personal:
With the growing of the business comes a hefty amount of stress on family life. This year has been a test to that and I am still learning on how to balance the two. This year I will work even harder towards that goal. I will be honest, I work a lot and have an overwhelming amount of guilt on my shoulders (well, not even just guilt.. but need) that I don’t get to spend enough time with my two children. I feel that now is SUCH an important time in their lives to learn and develop into great little humans and that is our jobs as parents to guide them. I’m making myself a promise to spend more time away from the laptop or the cell phone to completely submerge myself in them – in activities, in bedtime stories, in anything and everything. I feel SO grateful to be their mother and love them beyond words.. and I need more of them in my life. Look at these faces… once you do, I think you’ll understand. Their hearts are as bright as their smiles.
Brooklyn & Jayden, 2013 is devoted to you.
…A one year anniversary session in VEGAS, of course! AND at the Neon Graveyard to make it even more unforgettable! Justin & Jackie, I adore you.
(See their New York wedding here followed by their Michigan reception here.)
…and getting married in sunny Florida in April (notice the 4/28 Steelers jerseys)! SO happy for you two – it’s been a long time coming
